Surprise Surprise. Or Not

May 24th, 2008   Filed Under opinion

It might not be such a big surprise, as activity here has ground to a halft. But my interest in the Stargate universe has wained a lot of late. Well to be precise, i think it was the beginning of season 10 when my love of all things Stargate: SG-1 quit, and now my love of Atlantis is slowly dying.

I can’t quite pin point why. I don’t think i’m “growing out of” the shows, because i love watching the old episodes. Season 1-6 i absolutely love, of SG-1 and Atlantis has always been a bit patchy for me but i enjoyed the earlier seasons. It seems to have lost its way recently.

But it’s not just the shows. I remember when i first heard about the prospect of a Stargate PC game. I was over the moon. I though it was a fantastic idea. Now the idea’s morphed into an MMORPG i’m not against it, but i’m not with it as I’m not that interested in what else the universe has to offer.

It might also come down to the characters and their development in both shows. In Atlantis they don’t seem to be going anywhere and in SG-1 they went the strangest of ways, I was left feeling betrayed as a fan.

So I’ve come to no real conclusion about what to do with this place. I’m debating on whether i should do an episode a day of SG-1 and then move onto Atlantis, and highlight the episodes here as i relive them. It’s a tempting idea and makes me go back to when i used to enjoy the shows.

But if anyone has any ideas of what they’d like to see here, i’m very open to them! Please, let me know.

The MacGyver Band Wagon Continues

May 8th, 2008   Filed Under Richard Dean Anderson News

After I reported yesterday that JoBlo had rumoured that we may be seeing a return to MacGyver on the big screen, two more websites have picked up on the story - Cinema Blend and IGN.

Both are reporting similar things to what we’ve heard. Wonder if this will actually lift off?

Stargate: Atlantis - Season 4 DVD: Being Picky

In the beginning I was very happy with the R1 artwork for the Atlantis DVDs. They looked slick and had good use of the promo pictures.

Stargate: Atlantis season 4 DVD

However the recently showcased season 4 DVD artwork leaves me feeling a bit “humph”. I may be being picky, but the reason for my “humph” is that they’re using the promo shots for all characters but John. And for me, that doesn’t seem to work or be professional.

I could be being entirely too picky, but either use promo shots or in episode shots, don’t mix because it doesn’t look right!

Macgyver Movie?

May 6th, 2008   Filed Under Richard Dean Anderson News

This has always been bandied around, along with other 80’s TV show revivals turned movies like the A-Team and Knight Rider. JoBlo has reported that show creator Lee David Zlotoff attended the invention-focused Maker Faire and mentioned that he has plans to bring his the resourceful gadget craftsman back in a MacGyver feature film.

There’s no word yet on whether Richard Dean Anderson will return to the role or whether it’ll be a complete relaunch. What I do know is that this should be taken with the biggest pinch of salt, as it just sounds like one of those returning rumors.

One day the rumor will return and it’ll be true!

Den of Geek Interview with Amanda

May 2nd, 2008   Filed Under Amanda Tapping News

Den of Geek have an interview up with Amanda Tapping. It looks like she’s out and about in London, after last week’s interview which she did with The Metro.

Again, it’s much of the same questions and answers about her time on SG-1, Atlantis and the upcoming Continuum. Though there’s more talk on Sanctuary in this interview.

Amanda Interviewed in Metro

The Metro have got an interview with Amanda up on their site. She talks mostly of Stargate and her time on that, there’s a brief mention of Sanctuary at the beginning, and Amanda tells us how she got into acting. Apparently it was down to, of all people, Lionel Blair!

My parents are British but we lived in Canada. Every year, Lionel Blair would come to Toronto and do a traditional British pantomime and we’d go each time. He’d haul children out of the audience and on to the stage for one song. I always wanted to be picked but never was. That’s where it all started from.

Get Your Very own Stargate

April 23rd, 2008   Filed Under Merchandise

You too can get your very own Stargate, from the good people at ThinkGeek.com.

Millions of years ago, the Ancients made a network of wormhole gates throughout the Milky Way and other galaxies. Having since scattered throughout the universe, the technology was lost to us on Terra until just recently, when not one but two massive Stargates were found on Earth. Using these great rings, we human beings have learned how to travel nearly instantaneously from planet to planet, across vast cosmic distances, often bringing trouble with us. We’re an obnoxious race, I guess.

Normally made of Naquahdah (and once unsuccessfully made of titanium) and 22 feet wide, our scientists have used glass and polystone to shrink the dimensions down to a mere 10 inches across. All you need is a Zero Point Module to power it, and you’re good to go. Convenient enough, now, to hang on your wall. When you’re not actively powering the gate to generate a wormhole, you can look at your reflection in the event-horizon.

Dual use toys are awesome!

This model has 39 glyphs and 9 chevrons, giving us nearly 2 trillion possible destinations! Be careful using the Stargate, though. We’re completely out of Dial Home Devices!

Features

  • 10 inch diameter Stargate replica mirror
  • Water-effect event-horizon insert included
  • Hand painted
  • Hook on the back to hang on your wall
  • Officially licensed product from MGM and Quantum Mechanix
